I hope this letter finds you refreshed and trusting in
God. I have been in Swaziland for just a
week now and I have learned so much already. The team has arrived and I am so excited to be serving with them. They have a hunger for God and for His people
and are really open to learn. Pray for
us as we begin miistry next week that we will not miss out on any opportunity
that God has in store for us. The
culture here is different and is really going to take practice in learning
their customs. As a woman, I am not to look a man in the in eyes and I feel
like the men here just try to get me to look at them. We grew up in a culture where if someone does
not look in your eyes, they are being untruthful. That's a big challenge but a bigger one will
be not using my left hand for anything! The left hand is considered dirty here
so all things must be done with the right one. There are five of us lefties on
the team! Also, sitting Indian style means you are looking for sexual
relationships! Man...there are definitely some things that will take much effort
on our part but we have to remember that just because it is different, does not
mean its wrong. We are here to learn from the locals and not impose our beliefs
onto them. We had a brief SiSwati language
lesson yesterday and I really want to try and learn the language. English is
considered the business language but when we go into rural areas, we will need
to speak the local language.
